Tomorrow I’m off to Cal State Long Beach to serve on my first ever thesis committee for a Master’s student working with two colleagues, Jesse Dillon (a microbial ecologist) and Christine Whitcraft (an wetland ecologist). The thesis is entitled “The effects of increased sea level rise on the decomposing communities of a restored southern California coastal salt marsh”. It relies on marsh organs to stimulate sea level rise, and includes invertebrate community analysis as well as microbial community analysis using DNA techniques. Really cool stuff. I’m hoping to take some biogeochemical measurements once the projects get up and going. Looking forward to an exciting presentation!
